The system around the windlass

Anchoring Accessories & Controls

A windlass installation is more than the winch: the stopper that takes the load, the snubber that absorbs the shocks, the breaker that protects the circuit and the controls that make it effortless. Maxwell makes all of it — and Luxfords includes the right pieces in every quote.

The non-negotiable: never anchor off your windlass

Maxwell is explicit: every windlass must be used with a chain stopper or alternative snubbing device. The stopper takes the load off the windlass while you lie at anchor, secures the anchor in the fully raised position under way, and protects the gearbox from shock loads when setting or breaking out. The windlass lifts the rode — it never holds the boat.

Everything that completes the install

Maxwell Chain stopper

Chain stopperEssential

Takes the anchoring load off the windlass — Maxwell requires one (or a snubber) on every installation. Height-matched, levered and economy versions for 8–13 mm chain.

Maxwell Chain snubber

Chain snubberEssential

Rope snubber with chain hook absorbs shock loads and silences the chain at anchor — 6/8/10/13 mm chain hooks with 12–16 mm nylon.

Maxwell Anchor swivel

Anchor swivel

Lets the anchor self-orient into the bow roller — stainless (AISI 316), 750 kg load for 6–8 mm chain or 1500 kg for 10–13 mm.

Maxwell MAXSET bow rollers

MAXSET bow rollers

Self-launching rollers matched to each MAXSET/MAXCLAW anchor weight, satin or polished stainless; hinged, fixed and extendable versions.

Maxwell AutoAnchor rode counters

AutoAnchor rode counters

AA150 panel counter, AA560 controller/counter, AA710 wireless and AA730 wired roving remotes — know exactly how much rode is out.

Maxwell Foot switches & remotes

Foot switches & remotes

Heavy-duty 150 A foot switches (stainless, black or white), compact 5 A switches, helm rocker/push-button panels, roving remotes.

Maxwell Circuit breaker/isolator panels

Circuit breaker/isolator panels

40–135 A breaker/isolator panels protect the winch circuit and isolate the supply when not in use — required on every DC installation.

Maxwell Anchor tensioners

Anchor tensioners

Webbing or padeye tensioners pull the stowed anchor tight into the roller — no rattle under way; suits 7–13 mm chain.

AutoAnchor™ — know exactly how much rode is out

The AutoAnchor family adds rode counting and windlass control anywhere on the boat: the AA150 panel counter with docking alarm, the AA560 controller that deploys or retrieves a preset length one-touch, the AA710 wireless handheld (which can also drive a bow thruster or deck lights) and the AA730 wired roving remote for anchoring from the bow. All fit DC, AC and hydraulic windlasses, with plug-and-play sensors.

Counting in metres, feet or fathoms; safety locks against accidental deployment; logging of windlass hours for maintenance.
